McFly has had a bit of a rough start in life & could really use a champion. He was adopted as a puppy during Covid so he was rarely alone & he also didn’t meet many people outside of his home. His family later went through some turmoil with major life changes & ultimately made the decision to return him.

McFly is a dream dog! Within minutes of taking him home, he settled in and made the easiest adjustment. A few things I have learned about him :

- He is quiet as a mouse. He barked at the crew mowing/ weed whacking my backyard, but a quick call over and he stopped and went to his bed.

- He is 100% house trained and crate trained. I crated him for the first day I left the house and he went in without hesitation and didn’t make a peep when he was in there. I now trust him entirely uncrated while I am out of the house, and he is 0% destructive. When he needs to go to the bathroom, he will let you know by going to the door and/or a short whine.

- He walks like a dream on the leash. When we pass dogs, he's curious, but he has 0 reaction. He’s met a few dogs on leash on our walks and it’s immediate tail wags and wanting to initiate play. We passed by a dog who was reactive and he hardly paid attention. I’m excited to do some more slow introductions, as he seems to really want to socialize. He was AMAZING with the other BARCS dogs at the adoption event a few weeks ago, only giving warnings to the ones who came at him too fast. When he is in an uncomfortable social situation, he will let you know through body language before he does anything, so it’s easy to avoid.

- He LOVES adventures. We go for 5-8km walks in a day and he is all for it. He would be an excellent running partner/ fit in well with a family who loves to hike. We found some water and he went right in (he's going to be the best summer dog!) He is also 10/10 happy to nap, and to curl up with you whenever you feel like some down time. He's the perfect balance.

- He is definitely weary/nervous of men, but after his past, rightfully so. The key will be slow introductions, and eventually (with the help of some training) once he has gained some confidence and found his people/home, I think this will go away. He just needs to feel supported, and that someone has his back

- He does have some food aggression and needs to be separated from other dogs when it is feeding time. He also shows this aggression when giving treats to dogs and he is around. I do believe this is fear based and is something that can be worked on with a trainer

- We are working on recall, and so far he's been great. He loves his treats and sticks relatively close/ will come when you enthusiastically call him. Recall has not been tested yet with other dogs around.

- It was previously noted that he has separation anxiety, however that is not the case at all.

- He is great with women and children; very well-mannered and gentle.

- He has lived with a cat previously and had no issues.
