Soy (aka as Cheddar)

Soy is nicknamed Cheddar for her discerning taste in treats. She is an easygoing young dog who, given her petite size, is more likely to be a Staffordshire Terrier x than Pitbull x. She is a small dog, but the kind that contently lounges on the couch with you or keeps up on an adventurous day of hiking in the mountains! Take her to work, out for a stroll when you’re shopping or to your favourite patio- count her in!

She is a quiet dog and combined with her petite stature, would make a great choice for condo-living, although she loves sunning in the back yard. She is currently enjoying the company of a senior dog and while she would like said senior to play with her, she is very respectful of boundaries and following her lead.

It would be hard to find a dog gentler than Soy, whether it’s taking her favourite treat (cheddar cheese), expressing her displeasure (who likes getting their nails trimmed) or seeking out affection from her foster mom. While she can startle at sudden movements, she’s quick to recover and seek reassurance from her people. With her confidence growing every day, she is proving to be quite friendly, interested in meeting new people and enjoying their affection.

Soy is curious about other dogs but unphased by those who bark or display other nonsense. She appreciates when dogs approach her with good manners and isn’t afraid to appropriately correct those who don’t. She would likely benefit from another dog in the home to bring out her playful side and help her with separation anxiety.

Soy doesn’t do well in a crate, and we are currently working on reducing her separation anxiety through a predictable routine, exercise, and building her tolerance for being alone in small increments. We are also utilizing calming medication as she continues to settle into her new life. While a work in progress, we’re seeing promising signs!

Her ideal home will be one that is relatively calm, where her new family continues to support her needs and where she might have a canine sibling to goof around with. This sweet girl just needs a kind and patient family and in return, they will have an amazing addition to their family!
