Furby is a super cute, sweet, affectionate dog who truly loves people - he actually hugs you with his front paws. He bonds quickly with family members but also enjoys meeting new people and greets them with enthusiasm and a big heart. He almost looks like a little coyote and is actually smaller and sleeker than he appears in his photos.
Furby is very playful and is very inquisitive. He always wants to check out what you’re doing. He plays non stop with our 4 year male collie/heeler cross. He is not as interested in playing with our female bull terrier but they coexist just fine. Even though there was absolutely no problems when he was introduced to our two dogs, he was not so good when he went to the off leash park and saw other dogs. However that could have possibly been due to him feeling vulnerable since he was on leash while all of the other dogs are off leash and running around. Just to make things easier, we now just stick to walks around the neighborhood and cross the street if another dog is coming our way. Furby does pull while on his leash but we’re working on teaching him heel on our daily walks. Cattle dogs have herding roots so are not typically on leash and are famous for following right beside their owners whenever they are off leash.
Furby is fully house trained and has never had an accident in the house. He is still working on his manners, especially when around food. He is quite the counter surfer :). However his food motivation is helpful while trying to teach him basic commands. He is very relaxed around the house (no need to be crated) and shows no signs of separation anxiety. He would do best in a home without cats.
The ideal home for Furby is one where he can enjoy lots of human interaction (and maybe a playful doggy friend) and can continue building his skills at his own pace. With his loving, people-focused personality and cattle dog intelligence, he has the potential to be a wonderful companion and family member.
