Chinook

Chinook (aka Chinny or Chin Chin) is a 4 year old Boxer mix who arrived on the April 12 transport from Bakersfield, California. She’s an absolute sweetheart, who just wants to be loved. She’s a little shy in new situations, but is very friendly once she warms up. She’s currently being fostered with 2 other fosters (Darry & Kiwi) and 2 resident dogs, and she’s been great with all of them. She’s got a bit of a wild play style – typical slappy Boxer – which takes some dogs a bit of getting used to, but she’s quite gentle. Her favourite play partner currently is Darry, and he’s only 5 months old. She also LOVES her ball, so much so, she sometimes brings it outside with her to potty.

Chinook gets stopped often when we’re out walking because white Boxers are apparently somewhat rare, and her calm approach and mannerisms when meeting people are quite impressive. She’s an owner surrender, who clearly was loved and well cared for. She loves attention and snuggles, and will soak it up as long as you’re willing to dole it out. She’s pretty terrible on leash right now though, so we’re working on that every chance we get. She’s just so excited to be out smelling all the new smells.

While she stands fairly tall, she’s only about 48lbs. We currently have her on special food for sensitivities because she has a couple areas on her face and hind legs that may or may not be allergies. White Boxer/Bully mixes tend to have skin sensitivities, and she is no different. Facility food doesn’t always agree with them. It’s too soon to tell if her skin is clearing up, but it appears much better than when she first arrived. She’s fine being bathed, and having her leaky eyes wiped, so tending to her is quite easy. And her fur feels like velvet!

Chinook has not been tested with cats, so we can’t confidently say whether she’d be able to live with one. They’d definitely have to be Boxer savvy, because her love language is slapping you.

Fun Chinook Fact: 4L milk jugs must have been a toy for her in her previous life, because she’ll steal them and rip the lid off, and take off with them. Thankfully the one she got twice was only our dog park water jug LOL
