Tofi, short for Tofino, is everything you’d want in a dog. She’s loving, gentle, and looking for someone who can provide her with structure and a whole lot of patience. She’s already showing signs of being one of the most loyal companions you could ever wish for.
She can be slow to warm up—both with people and dogs—but once she feels safe, she opens up and becomes incredibly affectionate. One area where she continues to need support is her comfort around men. In our home, she’s had a particularly difficult time feeling at ease around my husband. Interestingly, she’s completely fine with him outside—he can walk around, pace, and she won’t react—but something about the indoor environment triggers her discomfort, and she can become reactive. Her response to other men has varied: she’s been fine around some, even walking past them calmly, while with others, she becomes noticeably anxious or reactive. These behaviors appear to be fear-based, and we believe that with the right approach and a bit of professional guidance, she can work through them.
Her behavior isn’t aggressive, but it is reactive enough that it requires close monitoring and creates stress in the household. That said, she has been absolutely amazing with our kids (ages 4 and 6). She’s gentle, patient, and loves being around them. It’s worth noting that our kids have been taught to respect a dog’s space and to treat them with kindness and appreciation, which has helped create a positive environment for everyone.
Tofi has also done well with most dogs she meets, though she can be a little hesitant around larger breeds at first.
While she still has the occasional accident in the house and may chew things if left within reach, she’s a dream on a leash. She walks beautifully, knows basic commands like sit and stay, comes when called—especially if you say “Tofi!”—and she’s always happy to tag along on any car ride or walk you want to venture on.
She's not a fan of being left alone. She will cry and screech but eventually settles down. She's also not a fan of the kennel—she needs a lot of coaxing to get in—but she does settle shortly after and can sleep peacefully through the night.
Tofi has so much potential and would thrive in a calm to moderate, patient home, ideally with someone willing to work with a trainer and give her the structure and reassurance she needs.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion and are ready to meet her where she’s at, Tofi could be the perfect match.
