Puck has done great since becoming a Canadian ten days ago!
He is a super friendly little guy who can be a bit nervous upon first meeting, but he warms up to people very quickly and then just wants to follow you around and spend time with you!
Puck shares the house with our resident cat, Ruby. They haven’t quite figured out their relationship yet—there was some barking and growling on the first day, but that went away quickly. Now, more often than not, they are able to peacefully coexist in the same room without any problems. Puck has been known to chase her once or twice if she sneaks up on him or moves too quickly, but he’s never aggressive. He seems to genuinely just want to play with her—as on the rare occasions he catches up, he just kind of stands there and doesn’t know what to do. I think Puck dreams of the day the two of them can be friends and play together. Unfortunately, Ruby dreams of the day he gets out of her house. I would have no concerns about Puck joining a family with a dog-savvy—or better yet, dog-friendly—cat.
Puck loves other dogs! Just like with people, he can be a little nervous upon first meeting them but warms up quickly. He frequently visits my parents’ three (large, semi-misbehaved) dogs and has a blast playing with them, sharing toys, and ripping around the house. He is the only dog in our foster home right now and is doing great, but I think his ideal home would definitely have a dog playmate for him!
I would say he is about 90% house-trained. As long as we take him outside every few hours, he rarely has accidents in the house. He sleeps in his crate all night, and while he may whine for the first two or three minutes, he settles very quickly and then rarely makes a peep.
Because I work from home, Puck has rarely been left alone, but when he is, we’ve crated him with little issue. He has the occasional accident in his crate, but we’ve mostly been able to avoid that by taking him on a nice walk before we leave to make sure he is tired.
He has not displayed any food aggression, and we typically leave his bowl filled all day for him to graze on whenever he likes.
Puck loves his walks and will sometimes pull or run around. We are working on his leash skills; however, due to his small size, it really isn’t much of an issue.
Overall, he is a great little dog who will make the right family very happy!
