Hi, my name is Doug E. Fresh but my foster mama calls me “Duggie” for short. I am an amazing Cha-Cha-Cha Chihuaha-mix that has made the long journey from Bakersfield, California to Calgary, Alberta. I wasn’t too sure about the cold when I first arrived but now I run out the door and happily go into the backyard to go potty and to explore my new surroundings. I am 100% house-trained and have not had a single accident in the house. In fact, I am so good that my foster mama lets me sneak into her bed for a cheeky afternoon nap along with her two resident dogs but I do go in my crate when she goes out just to make sure that I stay safe while she is gone. I am a complete cuddle bug and will happily curl up next to you and fall right asleep, especially if there is a cozy blanket for me to snuggle up in. I sleep through the night and am able to relax in my crate when my foster mama goes to work.
At first, I was nervous when the two resident dogs would come near my kennel and I would growl at them; since I am just a little guy I learned to be nervous around other dogs when I was a stray. After a few days of decompression and slow introductions I have become great friends with the resident dogs and we love to play together now. I am small but mighty and I don’t let my size stop me. I love to wrestle and play with the two resident dogs, even if they are way bigger than me, and I love to follow them out to the backyard for some extra fun zoomies.
Not only do I love playing with the other dogs but I also love toys. I love to go to the toy basket and pick out toys to bring back to my bed. I have created quite a collection of toys in my bed and have emptied the entire toy basket and carried each treasure back to my bed to keep them safe. Socks and slippers are also a treasure that I like to bring back to my basket but they aren’t nearly as fun.
Since I am so playful, I absolutely love kids. I am bit too small to be around very young kids, they may be a bit too rough when playing with me but I adore school-aged kids. My current home has a nine year old and I really like him. He cuddled with me on the car ride home after I flew to Canada and I loved being held in his lap; it made me feel so safe. Now we play together and I love when he lets me out of my crate after he comes home from school. I really love my new life in Canada and can't wait to meet my forever family.
