Meet Emerson!
Emerson is a charming 3-year-old Lab/Bully mix with a heart of gold, eagerly awaiting his forever family. This handsome boy is the epitome of loyalty and affection, and he thrives on being part of a loving home. He spent nearly a year in a shelter, just waiting for a second-chance at life. He is now living with a foster and he is showing-off just how amazing he is.
A Family-Friendly Companion
Emerson's gentle nature shines brightest when he's around people, especially children. While he's wonderful with kids, his energetic play style (he loves to jump when excited!) means he'd be best suited for a home with older children who can safely enjoy his enthusiasm. He can be nervous around new dogs but with proper introductions he is enjoying the company of his foster sister (a 65 lb doodle) and his extremely submissive foster brother (a 23 lb mini doodle); he has also thoroughly enjoyed playing with puppies. When his play style gets too much, he responds well and walks away, when the resident dog gives a growl. We believe he may have had a past negative experience with a male dog, which can make him a bit apprehensive at first. However, with proper, careful introductions, he has shown he can become fast friends and play wonderfully, however due to past concerns, it is essential that Emerson is not left alone with another dog. His foster will put her two dogs in their crates downstairs while Emerson has the freedom of the main floor and this has worked very well.
House Manners & Training
Emerson is a bright and responsive dog. He's already house-trained, though he is a bit timid and may need some encouragement to let you know he needs to go outside – his fosters are currently helping him build confidence in this area. You'll be delighted to know that he walks beautifully on a leash and has excellent recall, making walks and outdoor adventures a joy! Emerson loves to go for car rides and will hop right in sit down; he's ready to go for an adventure. He will quietly rest or hang his head out the window enjoying all the new smells.
Special Considerations
Emerson is a high-energy guy who loves to play! He's currently on medication for separation anxiety, which he takes without fuss when hidden in a dollop of peanut butter. This helps him manage his anxiety when left alone. He also has a sensitive stomach, with allergies to many animal proteins. He thrives on a hydrolyzed kibble prescribed by the vet, which can also be easily ordered online.
Emerson has an extreme fear of crates and does not do well in confined spaces; he is a pro at escaping from both of these and could injure himself in the process. His fosters have successfully left him loose on their main floor when they've gone out for 3-4 hours. While he tends to pace from door to door, eagerly awaiting their return, he's generally well-behaved. Just be aware that he might take the opportunity to do a little counter-surfing if something tasty is left within reach!
Your Best Friend Awaits
Emerson is a truly wonderful dog who deserves the very best. He's ready to bring boundless love, loyalty, and joy to a patient and understanding family who can meet his needs and help him continue to blossom. If you're looking for an active, affectionate, and devoted companion, Emerson might just be the perfect match for you!
