Mason has come a long way in his short time since arriving from Bakersfield. He was a very shy and intimidated guy who was extra submissive and we think that he was probably subject to some abuse in the past. It appears that Mason was handled as a puppy and he loves to get praise and attention, but we think that he was left outside or locked up alot. He is very food motivated and when coupled with control feeding is helping with him catching up on his obedience training, and he is demonstrating his sit, shake, stay, and leave it. He is learning that calm submissive behavior is what he is rewarded for. He enjoys relaxing on a dog bed which seems like a new luxury for him and he will lay and relax on his bed which he prefers over his crate. This said he sleeps in his crate overnight and naps in there during the day with no issues. Mason walks well on a leash and continues to improve every time he goes out. He knows his name and is getting better with his recall but loves attention so much that he usually comes when called if he gets some affection. He has had a few accidents in the house but is catching on quickly with the help of the other dogs, and is better about going to the door to go outside.


Originally Mason was marketed as a ‘back of the pack’ dog, but it was quickly apparent that this is not the case. Mason has no issues testing limits with his foster siblings or setting his own boundaries when playing and interacting. Mason’s main focus right now is learning his manners and basic obedience, and with the help of the other dogs he is developing this more every day. He really wants to be a pleaser but is unsure of how to be, and will need someone with patience and understanding to help him be the best dog that he can be. We think that Mason would strive in an environment with another dog his own size or as an only dog with someone who can give him lots of stimulation, attention , and love.
