Mason
Mason has come a long way since arriving from Bakersfield California. He was a very shy and intimidated guy who was extra submissive and skinny and we think that he was probably subject to some abuse and neglect in the past. He is however used to being handled and loves to get praise and attention and is very food motivated. He gets along very well with the two other dogs in the house playing and interacting appropriately. There are no kids in the house so we are not sure how he is with small children but he is well mannered among adults. Mason is a quick learner, listens well, and with his food motivation is demonstrating that he can sit, shake, stay, come, lay down, and leave it. He walks well in public on leash and is very calm both by himself and as part of a pack demonstrating this on the C-Train and in the Bowness Stampede Parade. In the time that he has been in Canada he has put on healthy weight and is now about 65 pounds. One of our favourite things about Mason is watching him learn how to just enjoy his opportunities at just being a regular dog. When Mason arrived he was nervous, pacing, always looking for food and he just couldn't relax. Mason didn't like going into his crate but at the same time the crate was the only place he knew to relax. Now he enjoys lounging on the couch, the big dog bed and since the weather has warmed up, he enjoys laying outside in the sunshine. He sleeps in his crate at night and will relax in there during the day with the door open, stays in there when no one is home and has no issue going in there now that it is his safe space. Mason continues to learn his boundaries and inside manners like keeping four feet on the floor, not mouthing, and therefore consistency in enforcing these boundaries will be important with him as he develops. Mason is very affectionate and loves to cuddle, get pets, praise, and wants to be part of the pack. Mason would do best with a leader or family who will give him the attention, stimulation, and affection that he deserves whether it is in a family or individual household, as he most certainly will reciprocate it. Mason is a loyal and thankful dog who really appreciates his new lease on life and really wants to show that to his person. He Keenly anticipates his forever home that will fulfill all his needs, giving him the interactive and loving life he deserves.
