Meet sweet Truman- a true gentleman. He has been the easiest dog we have ever cared for. He is polite, gentle, and highly trainable. Truman is a quiet dog that follows us around the house and prefers to be with the people he trusts. He sleeps all night on a doggy bed beside us and even enjoys sleeping in! Truman is house trained, and crate trained - he goes in the crate with a treat or something to chew on without a problem however he likely would not do well being in the crate for long days. Here its 3-4 hours per day during the week. He does not want to be in the crate closed when people are home but will go in on his own if someone comes to the door or he needs a little chill time.

Truman loves chew toys and needs this type of stimulation. He has not chewed anything he was not supposed to. While Truman is a very easy dog to have in the home, he is quite timid and scared on walks. The world still feels quite scary to him. He will freeze if he hears a noise and needs to wait it out. He will sometimes decide something feels stressful and wants to turn around and head back home. He will also either stop and wait for people to pass who are coming our way or want to turn around to avoid them. He does have an interest in dogs and will approach people with dogs to say hello. Truman is also not afraid of kids or teenagers and is happy to get attention from them. He does not show any aggression when scared or stressed. As he becomes more confident outdoors, I believe he would love walks and being outdoors. He loves to smell all the smells and he is a large dog and needs the exercise. He runs and plays in the back yard as this is where he feels safe. However, he likes someone to be with him. The only time I heard him bark was when I put him in the backyard alone.

We are seeing some progress with the anxiety- it took several days for him to potty on walks, he would only go in the backyard. He has begun occasionally doing this on walks. He does very well with a bit of playtime, a couple of walks and lots of time just laying and being with his people.

Truman is eager to please and very smart he has been redirected when begging at the table and when coming on the bed. He only had to be redirected one time and we did not see the behavior again. Truman would do well in a variety of homes, he may enjoy another dog to have a playmate and learn to be more confident. He needs to have a backyard and he needs access to chew toys for his anxiety and to prevent boredom. He would do well with a family as he does enjoy younger people but would do well in any home with a loving human. Truman shows his trust and love for people after a few days, and he just wants to be loved and feel safe. He needs someone who will be patient with his anxiety and help him build confidence and expand his comfort zone. Truman is full of love and will be your best friend if you give him the opportunity.
