Dodge is the sweetest little gentleman; we absolutely love him. He loves it outside, pouncing through the snow and burying his face. He loves cuddling, long massages and good scratches. Dodge is crate trained and goes in with a little coaxing with the help of treats, but has started to use the crate by himself to relax. He is very treat motivated and knows how to sit with verbal and hand commands. He lays down with verbal command and is learning come (touch hand) well. He learned to shake a paw in 2 minutes, but we are still working on stay. He is 100% house trained, running to the appropriate door when he wants out.
Dodge loves kids, likes to play, and chase the kids that live here and loves to meet all the kids he comes across. Adults too. He still mouths as a puppy but has never hurt the kids at all, they just pop a toy in his mouth, they love playing with him. He absolutely loves saying hi to all the kids at school pick up.
He is also amazing with our cats. Frankly I’m surprised at how well it’s going. He basically leaves them alone, unless he’s super frisky, then he’ll go to smell them and see if they’ll play. They have definitely set their boundaries with him, and he knows not to push it. But they also relax within 2 feet of each other, often Dodge on one side of me, a cat on the other.
Even though Dodge spends the night in his kennel, I have occasionally let him snuggle in bed with me and that is our fav time where I get kisses on my chin and ears. I have taken him on a 4 km hike which he rocked. He needs his walks and vigorous play time, as well as lots of chew toys to keep him occupied. He loves his rope ball to play tug with and his various chewie things. He likes going in the car but can have motion sickness within 30-45 mins after eating.
I’ve been working hard with him on the leash, and he does very well, doesn’t cross cross, and only pulling when we are 3 houses away from home. He is curious about the dogs in the neighborhood yards, but we haven’t met many on our walks. The ones he has met, he’s been friendly, submissive and then over it. What an amazing family dog.
